Aruba Signs Collaboration Agreement with For All Coalition

[New York, September 2018]

At the 73rdsession of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 73), Prime Minister of Aruba Evelyn Wever-Croes signed an agreement confirming Aruba’s cooperation to the For All Coalition. An initiative led by the Vice President of Costa Rica, Epsy Campbell Barr as part of UN Women’s Global Innovation Coalition for Change (GICC). The GICC is a dynamic partnership between UN Women and key representatives from the private sector, academia, and non-profit institutions focused on developing the innovation market to work better for women and to accelerate the achievement of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Many women across the globe still have to fight for equal rights and inclusion in fields like science, technology, engineering and math. There is also a growing gender digital divide, meaning that extreme gender inequalities exist in internet access, digital skills, and online rights across developing countries. At the same time, innovation and technology provide opportunities to both close the gender divide and accelerate the achievement of the SDGs and gender equality. The For All Coalition initiative aims to establish crucial alliances among governments and respective UN agencies to ensure that gender equality and human rights are implemented in a coherent way at a national level and across treaties.

Through a human-centered approach, Prime Minister of Aruba Evelyn Wever-Croes, strives to identify the key barriers to women and girl’s advancement in innovation, technology and entrepreneurship in Aruba and work collaboratively to take actions to identify their needs to break these barriers. This agreement offers great potential to help protect the right to a healthy environment for people in Aruba and worldwide and promote a new multilevel dialogue focused on gender equality and human rights.
